Lagunitas Imperial Stout

Imperial Stout
10% ABV. 72 IBU
Lagunitas Brewing Co.
Petaluma, California

Pours a very dark brown, with a nice, dark mocha-colored foamy, bubbly head.
Aroma of bittersweet chocolate, and toasty malts.
Taste of toasted malts, espresso, molasses, raisins, and semi-creamy rich dark bittersweet chocolate.
The bitterness of the bittersweet chocolate more pronounced than the sweet. Like a West Coast Stout.
Somewhat similar to maybe Old Raspy. Pretty good. Bottle says Unlimited Availability, so I can foresee more of this in the future. Some Stouts are One and Done. This one might stick around and make it into a regular rotation. Not overwhelmingly thick or complex but a great basic Stout nonetheless.
By no means weak or in any way lacking. Just not as complex as the Top Shelf Stouts.
Enjoyed a bottle with some smoked Fontina Cheese. Would probably go really well with dessert. Yeah, I think next time we will pour it with something sweet on the side. Although it's drinkability would also go well with a meal. Yes, we will be re-visiting this one.

  1. Thanks HeavyTaste. Glad you liked the brew and we appreciate the sweet Sabbath track to accompany it. Music and beer is always a winning combo.
