The Abyss
Imperial Stout
11% ABV. 65 IBU
Gold Medal 2007 GABF
Bend, Oregon
"When you gaze into The Abyss, The Abyss also gazes into you."
Most Imperial Stouts taste somewhat similar, with enough nuances to make it interesting to try them all. If you like the style you will probably enjoy most of them. Once in awhile a true standout comes around.
The Abyss Stands Out. Way Out.
This is just ridiculously complex, smooth and tasty. Supremely Flavorful.
Chocolate, caramel, coffee, vanilla, toffee, licorice.
A percentage of The Abyss is aged in Bourbon barrels. It does not taste like bourbon but it does have the wonderful flavors that good bourbon has; vanilla, caramel, oak. This is just ludicrously tasty and has so much going on. It is the Stout other Stouts Aspire To Be.
Stouts tend to be my favorite beers, this is one of my Top 3 favorite stouts and therefore
one of my Top 3 favorite beers.
This is one of my favorite bands, doing their version of my favorite song...
