Surf & Turf in San Diego

Big Fish Sea Grill
Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
San Diego, California
Outdoor Patio
Huge area. Lots of room. Never crowded.
Fish Tacos
Definitely some of the better Fish Tacos in San Diego.
For the price these can not be beat.Lightly fried, slightly crispy outside.
 Pretty tasty inside.
Everything I want in a Fish Taco.
They switched fries, used to be those waffle looking things that were really good.
Now basic, good ol' fries.
OK, I'll say it, I liked the old fries better.
Tasty fish tacos. Plate comes with two and your choice of
Fries, or Rice Pilaf...
Crispy batter outside. Tender, moist, flaky inside.
Carne Asada & Adobada
down the street a few blocks.
Basically I like to hit both places, one after the other.
Unbeatable grilled meat tacos. Both the steak and the pork are great and I usually can not choose, so I just get both. They are both cooked on open fire and they taste like it.
Then I drive up the street to Big Fish and sit down and order some fish tacos.
Shrimp Diablo
With Rice Pilaf. I don't know of any other baja style pescado taco place that serves pilaf.
Pretty nice for a change. The Diablo sauce is tomato based: tangy, creamy,
slightly sweet and actually not that hot. More like zesty.

Oak Aged Yeti

Clutch-The Yeti...

Yeti's Sophisticated Sibling
Aged on New French & American Oak Chips
9.5% ABV. 75 IBU
October-January

Denver, Colorado
Outstanding Imperial Stout.
Basically an oaked version of their already incredible "Regular" Yeti.
Addition of Oak Chip aging adds more subtle creamy vanilla to the rich roasted malt,
dark chocolate, & coffee flavors. Super creamy.
Like the regular, it leaves a deliciously bitter aftertaste.
Complex and extremely well balanced.
One of the absolute best of the current American Imperial Stouts.

Bell's Expedition Stout

Bell's Expedition Stout
10.5% ABV. 75 IBU
(Winter Seasonal)
Kalamazoo, Michigan
Another great stout from the Stout Mecca of the World.
Pours invitingly thick & viscous, almost sludgy.
Dark as the depths of the Great Lakes.
Not much of a head, not much carbonation.
Tastes like bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and dark caramel.
Strong roasted coffee flavor. Like French or Italian Roast.
Definitely on the bitter side. Definitely Delicious.
Should only get better with age.

Chili Verde & Adobada Taco at Ponce's

Local's favorite right off the 15 on Adams, in Kensington.
San Diego, California
Ponce's Mexican Restaurant
Family owned and operated since 1969
Comfortable booths with cool decor.
Pictures acquired at various thrift stores and estate sales over the years.
Chili Verde
Large, savory chunks of pork. Covered in a tangy tomatillo based sauce.
Excellent meat to sauce ratio.
Served with tasty rice and beans covered in cheese. My favorite Chili Verde in San Diego. I get a craving for this every week or so and nothing else will do. Perfectly cooked, the pork easily yields to the fork.
comes with corn or flour tortillas. Make your own tacos.
(Different visit, same menu item, better camera setting)
I really need to try different selections from the Ponce's menu,
but the Chili Verde is so good I always crave it and can't order anything else.
Too bad they don't make Chili Colorado.
Holy Crap! A plate with Colorado on one side and Verde on the other!
Mmmm, pork.
Adobada Taco
Marinated Pork
with onion, cilantro, avocado salsa, and pineapple.
Simple, sweet, savory & delicious
Awesome house recipe salsa.
I don't know what's in it, but I think it's heroin.
I jones for their salsa. At your request, they will bring a small bottle to table and I generally go through one or two. I could drink it. They also have a non-listed salsa verde which is pretty good, rather sweet, and has a cult following of sorts, it's good but I prefer the red.
Well stocked bar. Good tequila selection. Also have some Bourbon.
They make a decent margarita. Lots of margarita options,
and they know the difference between Cointreaux and Grand Marnier.
They have the basic Mexican beers,
and also some non typical Mexican Craft Beer
Usually standing room only at the bar.
For some odd reason Ponces is the loudest restaurant in America. Some odd trick of acoustics or something. It can not be very crowded and there will be no detectable noisy table and still,
an overall level of just plain loudness. Worth it for the fine food but weird.
Rare sight of elbow room and open stools at the bar.
Who is this lady? and why is she looking at me?

Great Divide Yeti

(Sweden)
Earth Yeti

Yeti
Imperial Stout
9.5 % ABV 75 IBU
Silver & Bronze Medalist: GABF
Denver, Colorado

Pours like thick dark, slightly sludgy roasted coffee.
Smells like coffee, and rich, dark chocolate.
Tastes even better, slightly creamy with a hop bitterness, like a wonderful roasted coffee bean bitter flavor that is actually quite tasty
along with the rich dark chocolate bittersweetness.
A lot more going on here though, besides the strong upfront chocolate there's molasses, toffee, and a little earthy vanilla, as well as roasted malts.
High hop bitterness lingers.
If your Stout flavor preference leans toward the bitter side,
this could be your favorite.
Another Go To Stout for me.
Always available at our house as well as it's many delicious variants.
Somewhat similar to Old Raspy but leans more toward the hoppy side.
Exceptionally good.
